Ipswich 21st March 2009

2nd In East Anglian Championship

080321-037

Foxhall stadium, Ipswich held the 37 car field of 2 litres hot rods.
A good turn out for the first Ipswich meet of the year, with a few new faces out in fresh looking cars. Without a cloud in the sky, the evening was set to have some interesting racing all round!

As the cars went out for the first heat, the grid was set by a random amount of 2 litres being sent round to join the back. By chance, this meant that Paul ended up going off of pole position. After getting a good start, Paul managed to pull away from the field. A stuck throttle on Cristoff’s 391 car, put him out for the rest of the meeting, after his long journey from Belguim. This then resulted in the reds coming out, and the remaining hot rods bunching back together.
As Mr Starter dropped the green flag, Paul mantained his lead ticking off the laps, to bring the chequered flag home in a race led from start to finish!!

After much fussing aroung heat 2 finally got underway with a reverse grid from heat 1. This meant that Paul was going off the back of a pack of 30 cars. Damage in the first race meant many couldnt get the cars out in time, or at all.
Paul managed to plough through the pack taking a well deserved 13th place!

So came the final, and after totalling up great points Paul took pole position, along side Jason Wilkes 110, followed by Mark Cooper 308 in his new car. The temperature had dropped severly at Ipswich, and it had turned in to a clear, chilly night on the east coast. As the cars got underway the top 3 stayed tight for the first 5 laps, as Paul took the scoreboard bend a little wide Cooper and Wilkes managed to sneak through. A coming together of Wilkes and cooper sent the 308 car out wide, allowing Paul to tuck in behind Wilkes in 2nd. A battle between Cooper and Bourne then persued for 3rd, with Bourne eventually getting passed Cooper. As the laps fell, so did the gap between Paul and Wilkes. It came down to a close finish, with Paul crossing the line less than a second behind Wilkes. After a stewards inquiry, and a lot of going back and forward, Jason Wilkes 110 took the first place trophy. Paul Wright 43 in 2nd, and Scott Bourne took 3rd.
